Sorensen begins World of Outlaws title hunt with DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals at Volusia
After losing Wednesday’s practice night and Thursday’s scheduled season opener, Dustin Sorensen returned to action on Friday afternoon at Volusia Speedway Park (De Leon Springs, Fla.) to begin his pursuit for the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series title.
Drawing a stacked field of 56 Late Models for the fifth annual DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals, Sorensen stormed into the opener with a consolation victory after missing a transfer spot by one car in his heat race. Losing one spot in the 35-lap affair, Dustin recorded a 22nd-place outing aboard his Heavy Hitch sponsored No. 119 Late Model.
On Saturday, Dustin missed a transfer spot in his heat race and B-Main, forcing him to use a provisional into the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals. Chasing the $15,000 top prize, Sorensen was scored 27th in the rundown after pulling pitside on lap 31.
